I was bored and my router was warm. Here are the steps I took to put a fan into my router.
  • This First pic, is when I was trying to open it up. I was very supprised that there where no screws under the little rubber feet.
  • Here we have the innards of the router, fairly simple to look at. Those shielded cable going to the anntae are soldered on and seem very strong, I didn't check though.
  • I used my gerber tool, to take off the screw-on connectors for the external part of the anntenea, (shouldn't be to hard to put on different syled connectors) and then put a hole in the top for the fan I really need a dremmel tool!
  • I was going to try to do thins the right way, but then I got lazy and found my super glue!
  • But Oh NO! I was out of super glue! Luckily I had more super glue!
  • Now that I had the fan glued in, I had to test it the hand in the picture is holding the fan wires to the adaptor. (Interesting side note, this linksys router is 12v, but I bought another one of the same model that came with a five volt adaptor. Either adaptor will work with either router, but isn't that kind of odd?)
  • Since the fan does work I soldered the leads to the back of the adaptor jack on the main board.
  • Finally I put it back to gether and fired 'er up, so that I could put this page up. the air flow inside the box is alot better, even when you consider, I didn't make any extra vents holes. Any questions? feel free to ask

As Promised here is the computer case I made from a Gamecube box and put a mini-itx mother board in. It runs Linux Mandrake 8.2 right now.

This machine runs just fine although BeOS does not have a full set of drivers, Windoze (eXtra Pathetic "professional" version) does not have a driver for the IDE controller, and Linux can't use the modem I gave it (luckily i'll always the best modem ever made ). Since it's running a C3 Via processor at 1Ghz, The cardboard is not a fire hazard.

As I said here is what I did to my monitor:

Soon to come pictures of the monitor I modded so I could put fans in it, and guess where I put a mini-itx motherboard!
